20 One-Person Companies Earning $1M+ Per Year (2026)

Verified public revenue, products, and source posts — what 20 solopreneurs and near-solo founders are actually doing for their seven-figure year.

Updated 2026-05-10 · 13 verified solo · 7 near-solo / comparator

"Solo founder making real money" used to be a Hacker News rumour. In 2026 it's a documented and growing market segment. Below are 20 cases where the founder publicly disclosed seven-figure revenue, with the source post linked. Where the founder runs with a tiny team or contractor network instead of pure solo, we flag it explicitly so you can read it honestly.

How we verified each entry

Inclusion required two things: (1) the business is solo-led, near-solo (founder + ≤2 part-time helpers), or was solo at the milestone we're citing; and (2) revenue is publicly disclosed by the founder on a citable URL — newsletter, blog, X post, podcast appearance, or independent reporting. Where revenue is run-rate or lifetime rather than current ARR, we say so. Cases we couldn't verify cleanly were dropped. Where the founder works with contractors or has since hired, the card is flagged.

Patterns: which categories dominate

Bucketing the 13 cleanly-verified solo $1M+ cases (excluding tiny-team and comparator entries):

CategoryCountExamples
AI-powered SaaS / API5PhotoAI, Interior AI, TypingMind, HeadshotPro, Bannerbear
Creator/info products + cohorts3Justin Welsh, Daniel Vassallo, Pat Walls

Boilerplate / dev micro-SaaS1Marc Lou (ShipFast portfolio)
Vertical SaaS1Testimonial.to

The biggest cluster is AI-powered SaaS — five of thirteen. Distribution skill (creator/info) and marketplaces follow. Boilerplate-style dev tools punch above their headcount: a single product (ShipFast) carried Marc Lou to a $1M+ year.

How long it took each founder to reach $1M

The range is enormous: from 17 days (Pieter Levels' fly.pieter.com) and ~4 months (Maor Shlomo's Base44) at one end, to 4–7 years (Plausible, Justin Welsh, Pat Walls, Bannerbear) at the other. The full timeline analysis is in our companion article: How long does it take to reach $1M ARR solo? Real timelines from 15 founders.

What you can copy

Across all 20 cases, three patterns recur:

  1. Distribution before product. Levels, Welsh, Lou, Postma, Vassallo all had an audience or distribution channel (X, LinkedIn, newsletter, community) running before they shipped the $1M product. None of them launched cold.
  2. Public revenue posts compound. Every founder above publishes their numbers. Transparency is itself a marketing channel — and a credibility asset that VC-backed founders can't easily replicate.
  3. Tooling, not headcount, is the lever. Multiple founders run on Stripe + Vercel + Claude Code or Cursor + a single boilerplate (often ShipFast). The hire-or-tool decision is now usually "tool".

Which pattern fits you depends on your founder archetype — what you bring to the table. Take the quiz below to see which of 14 archetypes matches your strengths and which of these $1M cases is the closest playbook for you.
